Set in an unnamed totalitarian state, the play follows a writer whose disturbing stories become the focus of a police interrogation after they appear to mirror a series of unsolved child murders. As the investigation unfolds, the line between fiction and reality becomes increasingly blurred.

Blending dark humor with psychological suspense, The Pillowman examines storytelling, moral responsibility, and the unsettling relationship between art and violence. It has been performed worldwide and is considered a modern theatrical classic.
